Helen is a talented dancer, teacher and choreographer who specialises in Middle Eastern (belly) dancing.
Helen was introduced to Arabic music at a very young age by her Lebanese father John Sleiman. He is a gifted tabla player who has played for many of the top dancers in the UK and Middle East. While listening to her father play and watching the dancers perform, both live and on tv, Helen learned the skills and techniques of the art of belly dancing.
Her first experience of dancing in public, at the age of 10, was as part of Off The Rails Appalachian clog dancing troupe. Since then she has learned other types of dance forms including salsa, rueda, jive and pole dancing is always keen to learn. Contemporary dance was a key element of her Dance Course at college for which she achieved a grade A at A level. During her time at college she also completed REPS courses and is a qualified fitness and exercise to music instructor.
Her natural dance ability and understanding of music have lead Helen to become an accomplished performer and teacher of belly dance.
She has performed at many of the large dance festivals including Raqs Britannia, Majma, Bellydance Mania, Oxford Bellydance Bonanza and most recently at Celebrating Dance. She has also been the youngest solo dancer at Planet Egypt, London’s top Arabic dance showcase.
Music and dance have always been an important part of her life. She has a love of all types of music and has played the clarinet, alto, tenor and baritone saxophones in several local bands and orchestras.
