Zara Dance is an established and popular international belly dancer based in the UK & Egypt .
She is a dynamic exciting dancer who is half Egyptian, she pulls on her Egyptian heritage to interpret and take the audience on a journey through the music. She currently works as a dancer in BOTH London and Cairo.
In Cairo she works in various famous hotels, boats and has an extra special love for dancing in Cairo’s many cabaret & night clubs.
Zara has starred in various music videos and bollywood films. Most recently, in Egypt, she starred in a Film alongside famous shabbi singer Shaaban Abdel Rahim and in a Ramadan special TV drama featuring Dina and Haifa Web.
Her dancing has taken her around the world – not only has she performed in the UK and Egypt but also vast amounts of East Africa including: Kenya (in both Nairobi and Mobassa) and Tanzania (in both Dar Es Salaam and Zanzibar). Other countries she has worked in include Pakistan and Malta.
Not only a dancer Zara is a much loved bellydance teacher – with regular sell out workshops across the UK. She has a unique position of being both Egyptian and British so able to re-lay and get across the cultural and feeling aspects of the dance in away western dancers can understand.
She’s an enthusiastic and passionate teacher and gives her all in every workshop she teaches. We hope to see you there.
Zara will be teaching the following workshops:
- Shabbi. This choreo will be hot off the streets of Cairo. Shabbi is a fast changing and evolving style. Zara will be bringing you a little taste of all the new moves and flavours going on in Cairo, the home of Shaabi. This workshop is far more than just a choreo workshop you will be learning about the history of what shaabi is, where it has come from and what it means to Egyptians. It looks at new moves and techniques as well as how to get your shabbi persona in gear!
- Back to Basics Baladi. Want to be a star of Baladi? Want to feel confident in moving & improvising to Baladi music? Then this is the workshop for you. This workshop will take you back to the basics of Baladi. It will re-root you & your dance, into the earthy, juicy hip movements & technique that are the essence of Baladi. Exploring & indulging in the music we’ll be bringing the soul of the dance out through your hips. This workshop will give you the tools & inspiration to set you on your way to confidently performing an improvised Baladi piece.
